Fish and Wildlife Technician 1

This candidate will participate in the management of four (4) WMAs in Oneida and Herkimer Counties with inspections and upkeep of assets, and assist with habitat management. They will also assist in eradication/control of invasive species on the WMAs. The candidate will support big game management via hunter-harvested deer and bear checks, CWD sample collection, site inspections for damage/nuisance situations caused by deer and bear, and permit issuance as necessary. They will also perform black bear nuisance abatement via technical advice and site visits. Also, trapping and removal could occur. They will assist with the Regional duck and goose banding program. The candidate will handle wildlife-related inquiries/complaints from the public via phone, e-mail, or in-person and respond as appropriate and per Department SOPs. They will respond to public inquiries related to hunting and trapping seasons, public land access, regulatory questions, and other state wildlife program priorities. They will also assist with pheasant releases and assist with the Oneida County Conservation Education Days. This individual will assist with any other bureau related project or directive as necessary.

Salary Range:
From $17.69 to $17.69 Hourly
Minimum Qualification
30 semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography. Preferred:
experience using and handling firearms, experience in hunting and/or trapping, able to deal effectively with the public, good verbal skills, both in person and in a public-speaking forum, good wildlife identification skills, wildlife marking and capture experience.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
